Yay! I am a fan is right.. I have been to Aroma many times now, usually on Thursday evenings and I have found it to be great taste and authentic every time. I am not saying everything is perfect with this place but I have uptil now managed to find and stay with the good taste. We usually stay Vegetarian when I go to Indian Restaurants and Malai Kofta here is Particularly great. Have tried Kadai Paneer , Sag Panner and lentils.. all were fine. I am a fan of Haywards and you get it here.. and they do great naans.. either its stuffed or butter, its usually done correctly. I will recommend this place for Ala-crate and will advise to skip buffet .

This review is for the Indian Grocery Store attached to the Aroma restaurant which also goes by the same name (atleast the bill says so). The store is a nice place for you to pick up Indian groceries like pulses, spices, flour, etc. Reasonably priced and most of the stuff is available. The collection of veggies was hardly anything but going by the size of the storage unit, am not sure if thats a focus point at all.

This place was okay. I think the meat was precooked and thawed then added to my curry. Dock one star. Did enjoy the naan, and the curry sauces themselves were quite good. The night I was there they closed the kitchen early and the kitchen staff came out and watched us as we finished our meal (we left right at closing, so, no, we were not squatters). Dock one star. When I was a server this would have never been allowed. The owner may wish to address this with the staff. I do wish to return to check out the store!

Great family run resturant. Authentic food, especially if you order from the menu. Not a big fan of buffet, as it is geared towards all taste palates. For authentic food, we love their lentils, butter chicken, spinach! Will keep coming back again and again!!

Let me start off with the good things: the food is decent, lamb is good Now for the icky part: -Worst service ever. They will ignore the hell out of you (they know it and they love doing it) -Takes 15min to get the naan (this happened 3 times in a row) -They keep pestering you saying that they're about to close soon (so don't go after 2:15p) -Poor refill frequency -Rice is plain and bad -Tried alacarte once. The curries surprisingly tasted worse than the buffet. Butter chicken=literally loaded with just butter. Special shout out to their horrible service again, you guys rock :)

It was a fine Sunday evening and we were in the mood for some Indian "desi" cuisine. Hence, we decided to try Aroma Indian in Vernon Hills. I mean firstly, the restaurant was completely empty with just us in there. That was a first scary sign that something is wrong with this place. As we entered there were two extremely bored servers who (without greeting us) walked us towards the tables and dropped off the menus and walked away. Literally no greeting, no words exchanged. We then ordered our food and he kept asking us "Is that it"? repeatedly after every item. Like why would you even do that? That pissed me off and was the beginning of a terrible experience. They filled our glass of water and I then asked for Iced water because the water was a bit warm. He asked me to take a couple sips of water or finish it before he would fill me up with Iced water! This is ridiculous. Instead of offering me a new glass of water, he was forcing me to "just take a shot" in exact words to empty my glass of water. Terrible service. Would highly recommend the food though and it is better to carry out rather than going in. Thanks!

I typically don't like Indian food, but this is the only Indian restaurant that I order from on a regular basis (mostly because when I say I want my food "mild", they actually listen). I'm a picky and conservative eater, so it took me a few tries to find what I like, and I usually order one or two same dishes. I'm not a fan of their chicken, but I really like the lamb. My husband likes their fish and masala dosa. Also, they have amazing naan! Can't comment on the sit-down service, since we usually get takeout. They are very fast! I wish they had online ordering, but I guess it's hard to expect that from a traditional ethnic restaurant. Overall, I have to say that it's a good place to go to, if you aren't familiar with Indian food and want to try it out, and you don't like spicy dishes, but there may be better Indian restaurants in the area if you aren't as picky.

Great lunch buffet! How come there are not more rave reviews about this place? Another hidden yelp gem....almost was deterred from the couple bad reviews, but pleasantly surprised! Great deal, awesome food!!!!!!!! $10.95 for home cooked food, this is a no brain er. What is so delish: *Fresh hot NAAN!!! Best I've had *Tandoori Chicken is legit! Yum! *Butter Chicken *Vindaloo *Samosa *Goat *Basmati rice *noodles (like lo mein but not quite....tasty though, I love me some noodles! More whose names I do not recall, including plenty of veggie options and chick peas. Also, Mango ice cream, yogurt sauce, pickled mango are all there too! You should definitely go, this is an actual Indian family running the place, and many Indian people were dining there, which is a great sign! There were a couple bummers... first, we only got one basket of Naan, which really was enough, but if I were going to go wild on it, they didn't appear to refill...perhaps upon request. Also, pop was FLAT.... and when I told them they weren't concerned....and still charged me... So service isn't great, but the food makes up for it, just don't go at the very end!!!

We came in on a Friday night to a nearly empty restaurant and that should have been our first red flag. The waiter upon approaching the table did not seem to speak much, if any English and things proceeded to get worse from there. Thankfully, my wife is Desi and speaks the language so she was able to communicate with the staff. We go ahead and order a martini which came out way too strong and had ice cubes in it which was peculiar. It also looked nothing like the drink we ordered and upon asking the waiter in Hindi, he accused my wife that she must make this martini differently and that somehow it was her fault that their drinking tasted like pure vodka. That aside, they did not offer paped, which has been standard at every other paki/indian restaurant we've at ever (which is dozens). Upon asking them why we didn't get any, we were informed that we must order it. Beyond the rudeness, god awful martini and poor service was the disappointing, burnt and bland food. We ordered a chicken 65 which tasted like pure chili paste on top of rubbery chicken along with a butter chicken that was bland and reeked of hingh. More shamefully than this was the fact that they burned their naans on a dead night. There was no excuse to burn a naan when theres no dinner rush and the chef can take their sweet time warming them up, but these giys managed to find a way to do so. Sooooooo... after fiasco upon fiasco, I have to hunt down the waiter to ask for the bill as he never returned to check on us or ask how the food was. He seemed despondent and barely acknowledged me as I asked, Shortly thereafter the hostess (and I'm guessing owner/family member) brought us the bill instead of the server. To cap off the whole experience, for whatever reason they played sad bollywood songs the entire night. It was extremely out of place and a mega-downer, but perfectly matched the atmosphere of the restaurant. We wont be back and regret coming here and sincerely hope that any of you who read this and choose to go there have a better experience.

I've been to this restaurant two times already and I must admit that their food is up to par with other authentic Indian restaurants I have eaten in the past. I've never seen it crowded so they seat you relatively quickly. To add to that, it was dinner time and this place is normal priced for small portions (a little expensive if you think about it). The servers are always checking up on the table to see if there is something else we would like to order or to refill my glass of water. Very attentive and I like that about this place. I've had several dishes here and I have been satisfied with them all. To name some, the chili chicken, rogan josh, and butter chicken. Recommended! Also, they give complimentary naan and sauce for appetizer!

My most excellent dining companion boyfriend and I went here at the sort of last minute, and we got in just under the wire. The food was fantastic! A lot of Indian food is tamed down for American palates which always makes me super sad, so this was an epic winning surprise! Very savory, and not too heavy. VERY good excuse to trek out to Vernon Hills if you aren't already in the area. It was pretty quiet when we got there, I think we got in around 8:30, they closed at 9, I think. They kept us in water, and checked up on us often, but not too often where you are wondering if they will ever go away and let you eat in peace. Very much looking forward to the next craving of Indian food so I can head out and grab some of this goodness again!

It was my first Indian dining experience last year in Illinois and it was great. Took my mother here for her birthday and she enjoyed her food as well. I had the Lamb Tikka Masala and it the arrangement of spices were as unique as it was beautiful to taste. For dessert we had rasmalai and it was so good my mama slurped the bowl(no dirty jokes guys). I wish I was still there to go back! I recommend if you are in the area!!

I went here recently after not having gone in a while and still enjoyed it. I am not a buffet person so I go at dinner and order various dishes to sample. They are always well done and fresh. It's a fairly quiet atmosphere but nothing wrong with that. The staff is always good. Also enjoyed trying all the Indian beers in the larger bottles.

Whomp whomp. I was craving Indian food, and so I ordered on GrubHub. I was headed to a board meeting, and wanted something for dinner on the way. Unfortunately, my food is sitting next to me while I sit in the meeting. Why? The menu didn't clarify that no rice came with the entrees, despite that I included "Please make sure there's rice, and if there's not, please upcharge me for rice." Of course, even if I had rice, I wouldn't be able to eat it...because - again, despite me asking - they also didn't include plasticware. The food smells good at least?

I never crave Indian food but I might start to after dining here! Friendly service + mango lassi + naan = Happy My boyfriend and I ordered garlic naan, vegetable samosas, two types of curry (butter chicken and lamb), a vegetable rice dish, mango lassi drinks, and dessert (rice pudding and mango ice cream). It didn't sound (or look) like a lot of food but we had plenty of leftovers. Everything was tasty but my favorites were the garlic naan, mango lassi and butter chicken. Come here and support a great family-owned restaurant!

Went for the lunch buffet and it was delicious! The one thing I missed was the butter chicken but the chicken tikka masala was delicious too. The goat was extremely tender and the mango ice cream was so creamy. At 10.95 it's worth it if you love indian food!

I have been living close to it for almost 3 years now and it is indeed the 'go to' restaurant for Indian food within a radius of 10 miles. Being a semi-vegetarian and Indian food maniac, it is hard to beat their 'palak paneer', 'dal makhani', paneer pakoras(when served fresh), gobi manchurian, kadi and the best of all- their USP curry sauce that is served as a starter on your arrival. Servers have always been friendly, food is consistently good; buffet menu gets revised every now and then. When I am not dining in, I take their vegetarian platter (available only for 'take out') and the food always tastes equally delicious.

My wife and I came here tonight for dinner. The first thing I do when I go to an ethnic restaurant is check to see if it is filled with people of that ethnicity. Upon arriving we noticed the place was not very busy and most of the customers were not Indian. Overall, the ambiance is nice, the restaurant is kept very clean and nicely decorated. The bathrooms were overall pretty clean but needed a little bit of tidying up. We ordered the following dishes: 1. Lamb Curry Dish-the lamb pieces were very small and not tender 2. A paneer dish 3. Bhangan Bhartha (an eggplant dish) 4. 2 orders of garlic naan (I am pretty sure this naan is pre-made/frozen) 5. plain yogurt (they didn't charge of us for this, if an Indian place charges you for plain yogurt don't eat there) We paid about $40 for the meal which I thought was ok. The prices were fair. Overall, we felt the food was OK. Being Indian, my standards for good Indian food is very high, and the food here is better than other places I have been to, but overall it tastes like "generic indian restaurant food". There was nothing about the dishes that really popped, my wife however really appreciated that the dishes weren't soaking in grease. What really struck me about our experience was the service. The plates on our table were not 100% clean and had food stains and dried food pieces on it, the servers quickly replaced the dish per our request. Our servers were very nice people, however they lacked the professionalism needed to really set this place apart. Firstly, our waiter's tie was really short, like obnoxiously short, as in "it could have been worn by a clown" short. Secondly, the other server delivered a drink that belonged to another table (our first waiter made a rude comment about his co-worker's error. Not cool). We were also given a complimentary appetizer, however, this was never explained to us, so were were hesitant to eat it because we thought it may have been for another table. The servers also stood around the bar chatting and joking around also checking and charging their cell phones. Our waiter even danced a little jig. (I wish I was joking, but he really did, it was one of the highlights of my night, I rarely go out expecting dinner and a show) Another thing that was noticed was that the wait staff won't pack food into boxes for you; I thought the restaurant seemed a bit more upscale and I expected the staff to do that. Finally, when the wait staff busses a table they make a LOT of noise, 2-3 wait staff workers swarm the table after the customers leave to turn it over. In the main dining room there is a large roll of paper that they use to put on top of the table cloths. It was distracting watching and hearing them turn over a table. Finally, a few nights ago my wife came in after her shift and ordered naan and the eggplant dish to go. It looked and tasted differently than it did today which was a little off-putting. Over all the experience is lacking due to the service staff, although, we may come back here to order take out. I feel if the owners were here managing the wait staff the place could be better.

This place was pretty good, but I remain faithful to my local Indian restaurants in the western 'burbs. There were some things I loved and some things I wasn't too impressed with. On the positive side, we got a ton of food for around $100 some dollars, about 5 of us ate for $17/each, which is pretty good for the amount of food we ordered (and some of the guys were drinking). They also put this delicious naan with some kind of sauce or curry (or something that I've never had before) on the table, it was so good! We finished it in a heartbeat! We also ordered samosas and a dosa for appetizers that were equally delicious. For my main dish, I ordered chana masala. I wasn't inherently pleased with it, which was a bummer, because everything else was so good. The chickpeas were way too tender and the portion was too small for the price. For the price, I expected leftovers, what I got was barely a single meal. However, that's okay because I wound up letting others sample my food since I wasn't too impressed with it, anyway. I've just not had chickpeas that soft before. They turned to mush if you tapped them with your fork! So sad!

I like Aroma. It's a nice Pakistani restaurant with a good menu and buffet selection. Double bonus: the buffet also includes endless Naan. What's not to like? Service was extremely polite, the choices for the buffet were unique even when compared to the late Bombay Kebab while still including traditional dishes (goat curry, tandoori chicken). The quality was good for a buffet, and the fact that the selection was pretty expansive was definitely a plus. It's located right in the heart of Hawthorn mall, so keep that in mind if you are travelling there from Northbrook, as I was. The short and sweet: good selection decent quality endless naan good value.

There are at least two Indian restaurants in close proximity to each other. The other is Peacock which used to be our favorite. When we got to feel that Peacock was on the downslide, we found Aroma. And Aroma has become a very reliable restaurant for us. But we had gotten to the point of automatic ordering which was unfair to the restaurant. The tandoori chicken is and has always been very good. Our last time, we changed around and ordered chicken curry, and lentils, both at the recommendation of our waiter. The chicken was perfectly spiced with a nice tomato based sauce. The lentils were also spiced--I'll call it Indian chili--very good. Recommend each. Our waiter knows that I'll say spicy and Steve M's spouse, the good-looking girl, will choose no spice. There's a bit of chance as to how the request comes back--fun to anticipate, but never too over-spiced, ever. They've sectioned the restaurant so that part will be a store. It was not yet complete, but they will have to be sure to that the fluorescent light of the store and the activity does not spill into the restaurant. (We'll see). NOTE: Your Yelp phone app will probably have a deal that will save you around $5 or so.

Wow, one of the best Indian dinners I've had in a while! My girlfriend and I wanted to try someplace new, and we both love Indian and Pakistani food. After seeing the favorable reviews, we wanted to give Armoa a try - and I'm really glad we did! It's a quaint and quiet little restaurant tucked away in the strip mall (it's a little hard to see from the street, but you'll notice it when you pull into the middle of the shopping center). There's a small Indian grocery store attached to it, which looked nicely stocked. Service was fast and attentive. We ordered a number of appetizers, all of which were well prepared and tasty. Our drinks were also very good. The dinners came out at just the right time, and were both expertly prepared and extremely savory. Aroma is a very apt name for the restaurant, as their spices and seasonings just filled up your senses. I look forward to coming back to Aroma, and trying more of their expansive menu.

The food is "OK". Not the best Indian food around Vernon Hills. Their Idly and Sambar ( south Indian dishes) are horrible. For people who go there and eat, just a FYI, Indian food are much more delicious than what you experience in this restaurant.

The lunch buffet is a great deal, especially if you are in the mood to sample a bunch of different menu items. I've never been here for dinner, so I can't speak too much to the service quality. However, when I've gone with co-workers during lunch we have always been seated promptly. I prefer the vegetarian dishes, and the paneer dishes are always excellent. The food is very consistent, and relatively mild.

Ate there last night after noticing it was right near my hotel (and reading Yelp reviews first). My experience was consistent with those reviews. Had the lamb vindaloo, ordered it "Medium" spicy which I knew would be more like Medium-Hot by Western standards. It came out just right. Would go back there for sure.

Yummy yummy yummy! Get rid of any stereotypes you have of Indian food and give it a try. I recommend the lunch buffet, it's a great value for your money. My fav dish is the butter chicken. The gobi manchurian is also excellent! The staff is always willing to answer any questions. Great for carry out too! One more thing: freshly baked naan or garlic naan is amazing. Can't wait to go back!

This rating is for the lunch, buffet and my initial impression is that I'm not overly impressed. The buffet selection was good so I don't think that is the issue. However, the taste and flavor one would expect from India food just was not there on most of the items. I was also extremely disappointed with the Tandoori Chicken and the nan was a bit disappointing as well. The service was not the best either... the main guy was about as engaging as a mannequin. In the end, I didn't get my Indi Food Fix.

Hey, I really dig this place. The portions are wonderful, and the food really does seem authentic Indian. We ordered Bhel Puri as an appetizer. It's quickly become one of my favorite appatizers (it's puffed rice, potatoes, and some other goodies mixed together, kind of sweet. I don't enjoy the red onions but it's my fault for not asking them to be removed.) For the meal, among the four of us eating there was Tandoori chicken, naan, some kind of chicken curry, this indian-style crepe filled with potatoes and other stuff, with some kind of lentil soup on the side, and this pea/meat mixture (I can't remember the name). It was all very good. I enjoyed it a lot, and there was plenty left to take back home. They gave us free naan as a pre-appetizer. That was nice. Definitely would recommend this place to go to if you're in town.

This review is fr carry out only. My friend picked up the food, so I cannot even comment on the interior of the restaurant. What I can comment on is yum dance my taste buds started doing as soon as I took a bite of the Butter chicken. Then the excitement they experienced as I soaked up the Paneer with naan. This was some of the best Indian food I have had! I am not sure if that says much since I am new to Indian food, but I will definitely be returning to Aroma in the near future!

We walked in at 4pm on Sunday, didn't realize they open at 4:30 pm for dinner but the door was open. Walk in to find one employee sleeping on the floor without shoes on, while another one slept on 5 chairs alligned next to each other. Had I not already purchased a $10 for $15 coupon I wouldn't have waited the 30 minutes and returned. The food was 3/5 for Indian food. The na'an was great. The service was good. The ATTITUDE of the person serving us (I think he was the owner) was absolutly disgusting. I don't know if he was upset that we ruined his sleep but we thanked him for every bit of service and not one "your welcome". He was also hawkingly watching us and it looked like talking about us with his other sleepover buddy. The food was decent and the bread was good, but the experience was pretty unpleasant to say the least. We were the only customers and they should have tried har....tried. I will never go back here again and frankly I get sick thinking about these employees sleeping on the floor and then handling food. Maybe it's just me.

If you are craving Indian lunch buffet this place will definitely satisfy. Great naan and standard foods you'd expect to see at the table but definitely fresh. Yes the goat dish has bones in at as it does at most Indian restaurants. Price is 11 for the lunch buffet which puts it in a reasonable range for what you get. I'll definitely go back the next time I need to break in some addition notches in my belt.

This place is trash.. I am not sure why people rate it soo high This is the worst service ever. The servers dont know how to talk in english and are big time racists. They treat desi ppl differently than the americans.. They have this yelp coupon which give $15 for $10. Beware while buying this deal because it isnt applicable to some of the items they have on their menu The front desk person is rude and applied the coupon after I insisted but somehow the number were wrong and when I questioned.. I found Aroma to be a just ok spot for Indian food. The buffet was very reasonably priced at $10.95 and they had a pretty decent selection of foods. Our waiter was very nice and promptly refilled the drinks. The food was decent, not the best nor the worst I have ever had. What really threw me is I had the goat curry as I wanted to try something a little different and i t was loaded with bones. I almost cracked a tooth on one. This is why this is not getting 3 stars. There was no warning anywhere that the dish may contain bones. Most of the other dishes were tasty and I ended up getting seconds. Just an ok place for Indian and will probably try out others in the area. Another one that was probably 2.5 stars vs. 2.

You will find good dishes here. But my advice would be to go to the lunch buffet, load your plate full of the butter chicken, eat it all, then decide if you ever want to eat anything other than this awesome butter chicken ever again. Maybe get a second plate and get more and some tandoori chicken and put butter chicken sauce on that. You will never want to eat anything but this ever again.

Remember that it's an Indian restaurant so you're not gonna get the pretentious over friendlyness you would get at restaurants run by Americans. I tried their Indian buffet a few times. At first a pleasant experience with full choice of vegetarian and meat dishes. What stopped me from going was at least on 2 occasions there were no vegetables on the buffet, which I found strange. The buffet was loaded with rice, mushrooms, pekoras and beans but none of the good stuff like Saag, Cauliflower, Korma mixed vegetables. I asked the server why there were no vegetables and they said they had a hard time getting vegetables. Very strange indeed!

BUTTER CHICKEN. i'm pretty sure butter chicken is just their stripped tandoori chicken (which i hate bc it's too dry) soaked in a sauce made of heaven. the chicken soaks up the sauce and zomg i'm salivating right now. their $9.95 lunch buffet is a much better deal than the one over at India House, which used to be my previous favorite. they always have the mango ice cream (which is not true over at india house), oh and mixing mango ice cream w/ their rice pudding = DELICIOUS NEW DESSERT! oh and they have samosas here as part of the buffet. apparently not all indian buffets offer samosas. what a travesty. whenever i eat here, i'm full for the rest of the day and skip dinner. so i calculate the $9.95 for two meals -- best deal ever! i've never actually been here for dinner, but why would you eat dinner at an indian place ever when you can get AYCE butter chicken at lunch? that just doesn't make any sense.

I try not to stray far away from Devon when I want to get my Indian food fix, but this place is one of the only Indian restaurants up north. The food is great and the waitstaff are friendly. Your water glass will never be empty! The keema samosa is one of the best I've tried. We also had the lamb tikka masala (might be my new favorite), the butter chicken (will always be my favorite), and the Saag paneer (also yummy). We tried the nan with the sesame seeds and I really enjoyed that. Their garlic nan is also tasty. There is also a whole wheat nan available, but it was flavorless (boo). I got a $25 off coupon from restaurant.com for only $3, so it was definitely worth it. Plenty of parking in the lot. They have a $10.95 lunch buffet while I'd love to try one day!

We ordered a tandoori mix grill but were not entirely happy with all the items in it. Some were better than the others. The chicken vindaloo did not look like the correct color. On the whole, the food was tasty and the hosts were hospitable. I might go back there when I visit the area on work.

Was my favorite restaurant till I decided to do catering, i placed the order the day before for 2 entrees, 15 samsosas, 10 aloo tikkis and 2lb of bhajia and was supposed to pick it up at 5 pm the next day. I arrived at 5 pm and the waiter who told me his name as Peter rudely asked me if I came alone and I replied yes. So he said take this entrée and put it in your car and come back for the rest. I noticed there was only one table which had two people having dinner and 4 waiters standing around behind the bar and not one asked to help me out. Terrible customer service. I came back and asked for the rest of the food and waiter said it will take 5 more minutes. Waited till 5:20 and then decided to talk to the waiters standing behind the bar and informed them that I was supposed to pick everything up at 5 and how long it was going to take. Peter the waiter replied back and said rudely it will take 2mins more without even going to the kitchen to check. I finally got all the food at 5:30 and then noticed they forgot to put down the 2lbs Bhajia and I was not going to wait around for them to make it. I had to go to spicy bites to pick up the bhaijias. When I asked the waiter for his name as I wanted to write a review he said it was Peter and as I was closing the door to leave he yelled and rudely asked do you want my last name as well. I have read the numerous reviews on yelp for the restaurant and people are complaining about customer service the most. I love the food at Aroma but I want management to know about the service provided to me by Peter and the rest of the waiters. You have lost a customer.

I have visited Aroma with friends, family, and coworkers, and everyone loves it. The buffet is a good deal ($10.95) if you want to try a little bit of everything, and they recently added a store to the side of the restaurant that sells Indian food. The hosts/waiters have always been nice and accommodating, and I have yet to have a bad dish there. For the various Indian places that I have tried in Vernon Hills, this is one of my favorites.

$9.95 lunch buffet is consistently delicious. There are always a good number of vegetarian selections. My only complaint is that Westerners, you really do need to know what you are doing. There are no English descriptions of the dish on the label, and the food is not necessarily laid out in a "logical" order. Thankfully, I have a charitable Indian friend who almost always accompanies our outings here, and she's happy to point out if I've inadvertently taken a plate of dessert first or I'm putting the Indian equivalent of ketchup on my ice cream.

My favorite indian restaurant by far! I have tried quite a few places and this one is definitely a winner! Great service and amazing food! My favorite dish so far as ive tried many is the shrimp biryani. So good and nicely spicy. Just make sure to say mild because the spicy is super super spicy. The nice thing is if you feel its too spicy they will remake it no questions asked.

This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the area. Their food is always consistently good and I always leave wanting to come back again. The best time to go is during their lunch Buffett. You get as much food as you want for a set price otherwise it's about $40-$50 to go for dinner for 2. My favorite is the vegetable samosas and the chicken tikka masala. It's hard to find Indian restaurants that use the right amount of spices and they get it right all the time.

I would be a fan if I didn't get a case of gout the next morning. The food is that great, yet tons of sodium. The service is great, the new server did what new servers do. But its ok, my coworker got his beer. I ordered the 'Butter chicken' which was absolutely delicious. I got it with normal rice, which was bigger than I thought it would be. Even with no more chicken in the sauce, I some extra rice in it. Bad thing about this is that I'm raising my sodium intake exponentially per minute. The host was very hospitable and knew how to take care of his customers. My only qualm is to lower that sodium in that food. I know you love salt, but I'm sure you love your heart too.

WOW! this is my fall back for north Indian food. My family and I have been here a few dozen times and each time the owners and staff have treated us to a wonderful meal. Being a non Indian some stores make the food non flavorful, this is not the case here the food is spiced properly. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Appetizers were just luke warm, medu vada seemed like they were made from frozen packets, gulab jamun seemed like they were just taken out of the fridge....the rest of the items were ok. Coming from an Indian vegetarian - the food is excellent! This is my idea of "Indian comfort food". This is not the food your typical family would prepare at home, old world dishes which most people just don't have the time to prepare at home. Food is definitely VERY filling and heavy, watch the fried food and bread - its easy to get carried away. I dont suggest ordering any alcohol unless it's just cold beer, they dont really know how to make drinks but that can be forgiven. The one time I ordered a martini, it came with ice cubes in it! Never ordered a drink again, they dont know how to make them (LOL, its kinda cute). The only reason I don't give the place 5 stars is because the wait staff does not know how to smile, they take your order and get the job done... thats about it. Try and get there after 6PM. I've made the mistake of getting there around 5PM and found no staff, whatever, that can be forgiven because once I did find a server he was fine.

My husband and I were here for dinner one cold, cold evening.I was very excited to try this restaurant, I scouted their menu online and was overjoyed when I learnt they served Dosas! I love Dosas ( crisp rice pancakes). I was very disappointed :-( The dosa it self was dry, and the mashed potato was a bit burnt, the chutney was awesome made out of real coconut, the sambar however was too sour. Hubby got the lamb biryani and rogan josh. The tandoori chicken was not bad. The Gulab Jamun was definately out of a plastic bag..I swear I could smell plastic -ish stuff. I really liked the nan and the dipping sauce the waiter brought to our table while we were browsing the menu. the service was very nice, the waiter was very pleasent. I am not dismissing this restaurant, I will give it another chance for sure. I am definately going to try the lunch buffet one of these days.

I've been visiting Aroma ever since they opened as they're a mile or so from my office. I'm an absolute junkie for Indian cuisine and this place never disappoints. The lunch buffet is ALWAYS fresh and delicious with a variety of vegetarian and meat dishes. As you'll see others mention, the butter chicken is the standout here. Never have I tasted a better rendition of this dish and my Indian friends agree that this dish is top-notch. The tandoori chicken is always wonderful as well as are the delectable mango ice cream and gulab jamun desserts. I used to be India House's biggest fan, but Aroma gives them a run for their money!

I was really in the mood for Indian food and thought I would try Aroma since it got good reviews. When we went there the service was pretty bad, we ordered tea and had to ask them to bring it two times before we actually got it. As for the food, we ordered the chicken tikka and the seekh kabob and both dishes were very dry, as though they had been over microwaved. When they came to get the food and we told them we didn't need to go containers (mind you, we said this as politely as possible), rather than ask us if we did not enjoy the meal, the server actually gave us an attitude and shook his head at us. From that point on they would not look at us or speak to us even when giving us the check. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone who actually likes real Indian food and cares about service.

Surprisingly really good Indian food. I'm from the San Francisco Bay area so I wasn't expecting much from a Yelp coupon for Indian food in Mundelein. And we have struck out at a lot of restaurants in Mundelein. But this place was great! The naan is so good and flavorful. We had saag paneer, chicken tikka and jasmine rice. All excellent. 4 stars instead of 5 was for the not so friendly "greeter". The waiter was very nice and patient with our 2 year old. I don't know if the other guy was the owner or what but he didn't start to warm up to us until the bill came.

What I can tell you is, their lamb sahi korma is friggin' delicious. I also got an order of paratha, and it too was enjoyable. First the good: The Food was pretty good, but it was fairly typical. Nothing too special about the selection for vegetarian items. It was fairly satisfying though kinda small. I can't say that it was the best Indian food I've ever had, and I can't say it's the worst either. I'd give it a 7/10. It was aromatic and very flavorful, just a little skimpy on portion size and ingredients used. It wasn't an overwhelming amount of vegetables or paneer, but enough for you to get the idea. Make sure you get plenty of appetizers prior to ordering your main course as you won't be full by the main dish alone. Now the bad: I'd give them 4 stars for the food except for the experience below. I walked in a half hour before they were open with a group friends. The sign said they open at 4:30, but the door was open. I figured I'd see if they can seat us early seeing that they should be well prepped for the dinner rush. Nonetheless, I caught one of the employees greeting me with groggy eyes muttering something along the lines of the restaurant being closed. He was sleeping on two chairs next to a table. I looked ahead and there was a pair of feet sticking out of blanket on the floor. I laughed it off and figured they were just exhausted from lunch. The thing that really got me was the rudeness and plain indifference of our waiter. He had this arrogant and annoyed temper that just rubbed me the wrong way. Seemingly, every time we asked for extra naan bread (even the naan bread we paid for) he would roll his eyes. He was completely useless in terms of helping newbies decide on a menu option, and strikingly said that everything was "good". Perhaps this is the truth, but can you offer a bit more feedback? During the entire meal the man was staring at us from afar the entire time we were eating, as if trying to expedite our meal. Every question that was asked was rebutted with a rude remark followed up with a conversation in his native tongue with his bar-buddy. This was kind of awkward having somebody talk in a foreign language, clearly about your table because we were the only ones in the entire place. You would expect some sort of welcome or enthusiasm. Even when we thanked him multiple times for the service he scoffed and walked away. I do have to hand it to him, however, he did fill our water glass in a timely manner, but never offered additional naan for the table of four. We had to ask multiple times. All in all the experience was rather unpleasant, especially for the newbies with me. I've had Indian food all over the suburbs and Chicago, and I have never had such small portions combined with cranky waitstaff.

This is a very good restaurant, and one will not be disappointed by the service, food, and facilities of this restaurant. This is one of the better Indian restaurants in Lake County, IL, and its location is great as it is nearby shopping and entertainment attractions. Basically, this restaurant is a good value as its buffet is excellent, and its menu dining is very reasonably priced. The quality of this place is good, and one will leave here very satisfied.

Being a noob to Indian food, I am still searching out what will be my eventual favorite go to joint. So I try Saffron for dinner after work one night. This is a decent enough looking place but is the first I found with the overwhelming curry smell everyone imagines when they think Indian restaurants. I ordered the Nababi dinner, a nice combo platter with a few different dishes to sample. The tandoori chicken was really good, no gripes here, flavorful and moist. The mixed vegetable curry was very good as well. I wasn't so fond of the chicken makhani, and I think it was instrumental to my upset stomach later that night. The chicken tikka was a solid good but I was really turned off with the fish tikka, not great. The saffron rice was good, ordinary but good. The naan was as good as I've had, very good in fact. I'm sure if I ordered the Tandoori chicken with a decent vegetable dish I might have rated this place 4 stars. As it is, my tummy paid the price for my adventurous spirit. Still you could do worse, but things were a little pricey.

I have been here a few times for the lunch buffet. While there is nothing wrong, nothing stands out either. The samosas seem to have been over-fried both times. The tandoori chicken was good as was the goat curry. The other dishes on the buffet are all right although I must admit that I don't really care for Sambar regardless of where I've had it. It does seem odd that they never seem to have plain rice on the buffet, though. I do like the mango ice cream here better than the other place; it's more creamy. I feel the need to mention that the tables and chairs seem to be mis-matched size-wise. Either the chairs sit too high or the tables are too low. I always feel like I am uncomfortably hunched over my plate. Also, they can be a bit slow with bringing the check at the end of a meal. Otherwise, the service here is good, but a bit formal for a casual place.

The real story, I think, of this place is that it's lunch buffet value. I've had too many $15 Indian Buffets that leave me feeling like I ate a block of curried cement. Stopped here w/ my 2 daughters before Xmas shopping, so got an opportunity to walk it off, but we all three tried everything they had and ended up back for 2nds. The GOAT CURRY was tender - maybe the most flavorful and tender I've had that I can remember - but I'm a fan of this place. The water glass never went empty and the hot stuff wasn't so god-awful hot that I couldn't taste anything else, but they definitely put the Hot on the things that are supposed to be hot. Nice balance. Could stand a couple of more pieces of naan on the table. Would suggest a larger pan for the rice - when you get busy, that rice goes fast! We'll be back sooner rather than later.

These people need to consult with someone on logistics. They need to create a better flow of the room. I went back and realized things I'd forgotten since my previous review. Weekday lunch hour is packed with people. This week due to Diwali the buffet line was so long at its longest point there were almost forty people in line. What I noticed is many of the nearby corporations will call ahead and reserve tables for the buffet. Stupid! Serve your here and now customers first! Also instead of just one row of buffet line, why not create two rows or separated buffet areas? They don't have a coat rack so that clean look of the seating area is lost to the plethora of winter coats draped over child seats and chairs. They have space for a coat rack. I'll share a rumor I'd heard about the chef here, it seems many are aware of how well this restaurant is doing (and their good food) so there are investors of other suburban Indian restaurants that are on the prowl trying to steal the chef of this place. Since my review I was surprised to find an auto deodorizer in the men's room, the smell was better when the unit functioned ! Maybe it wasn't working the last time. Still, I can't decipher if there is a permanent smell of ass in the men's room or maybe it's an employee blowing up the room in ass potpourri on a daily basis. Men, avoid the restroom till the end of your meal. As mentioned above weekday lunch hour gets very busy, so do like others and reserve a table or try to plan your lunch hour at varying times.

A close friend of mine wanted to try Indian food again so I decided to scour yelp for a location. After reading the reviews for Saffron I decided it sounded like good place to try. We gave it a go for dinner last night and we were both pleasantly surprised. It's tucked away in the corner of a busy strip mall that can easily be overlooked by an inattentive eye. The inside is dimly lit and has a somewhat cozy and intimate feel. Service was good, our waiter was courteous and took our drink and food orders pretty quickly. We ordered the vegetable samosa appetizer to start of the night. It was very tasty, the outside was nice and crisp, the inside was hot with a nice spice. The trifecta of sauces that accompanied the samosa gave it a nice kick. For entrees we ordered the Butter Chicken Mikhani, Saffon house combination biriyani, and garlic nan. The butter chicken was very good, sauce was nice and creamy. The house biriyani was very good as well, nicely seasoned and the rice cooked perfectly. I had only one issue with the biriyani...the scarce pieces of lamb and shrimp that spotted the rice. I would've like to see more than two pieces of shrimp. Our only other quip was the garlic nan. You really couldn't taste the garlic. We would've saved a dollar and ordered the regular nan. At the end of the night the food left us full and satisfied. Prices seemed just a tad steep for the portions we got but then again I'm used to outrageously big Chinese restaurant portions. Dinner for the 2 of us plus a glass of wine and diet coke came out to $45. I would definitely go back for the lunch buffet as it seems to be a better deal.

India house in Buffalo grove is a bit better, but I live in Vernon Hills, and the food here is good enough that we haven't been back to India House. The buffet is excellent and satisfies our Indian cravings. The staff is very nice and family like, unlike Peacock where they are the walking downbeat dead. It's good food.
